Taiwan pineapples could enter US market next year, pending final approval
Taiwan has completed the required export procedures and is awaiting formal approval from US authorities, with quarantine conditions and the timing of the first shipment still to be confirmed.

Taiwan’s agricultural authorities said the relevant administrative procedures have been completed and that the government is now awaiting final approval from US authorities. If the remaining procedures proceed smoothly, Taiwan pineapples could enter the US market as early as 2027.
According to information released by the Taiwan government, Taiwan has completed the administrative procedures required to export pineapples to the United States and is awaiting formal notification from the US side. If approval is granted, exports could be timed to coincide with Taiwan’s main pineapple season, which generally runs from February to May.
Taiwan’s agricultural authorities previously said US officials were concerned about quarantine risks posed by pests including the Oriental fruit fly and scale insects. The process covers import quarantine conditions, the origin of the fruit and production management requirements. Whether exports can ultimately begin will depend on a formal decision by US authorities.
Pineapples are one of Taiwan’s signature fruits, with major production areas including Tainan, Pingtung and Kaohsiung. If the US market opens successfully, Taiwan’s farmers and exporters will have an opportunity to develop a new overseas outlet and raise the international profile of high-quality Taiwanese fruit.
Taiwan has continued efforts to diversify its agricultural export markets. After China banned imports of Taiwan pineapples in 2021, Taiwan stepped up efforts to expand into Japan, Hong Kong and other overseas markets through promotions, distribution partnerships and product branding, reducing reliance on any single market.
The United States has a sizeable consumer market, but the actual benefits of exports will depend on quarantine rules, transportation costs, product storage conditions, retail distribution and consumer acceptance. Pineapples are vulnerable to transport times and storage conditions, meaning exporters will still need to ensure consistent quality and an efficient supply chain.
For now, access for Taiwan pineapples to the US market remains subject to approval and cannot be considered officially open. Attention should turn to announcements by US authorities, detailed export quarantine requirements and the schedule for the first shipment.
