Taiwan’s Chen Kuan-ling wins two silvers and a bronze at weightlifting worlds
The 21-year-old lifted 90kg in the snatch for bronze, then claimed silver in the clean and jerk with 125kg and in the total with 215kg, improving on last year’s world championships result.

Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Kuan-ling won two silver medals and a bronze in the women’s 57kg class at the World Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo, China, reaching the podium in all three events — the snatch, clean and jerk, and total.
According to CNA, the 21-year-old Chen, who is from Luzhou District in New Taipei City, successfully lifted 90kg on her second snatch attempt in the event on Oct. 30. Although she failed in her attempt at 93kg, the 90kg lift was enough to earn her the bronze medal.
Chen made all three of her clean and jerk attempts, lifting 117kg, 119kg and 125kg in succession to take silver in the event. Her combined total of 215kg earned her another silver, giving her two silver medals and a bronze at the championships.
Chen won bronze in the women’s 57kg class at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, this year, recording a total of 217kg. Her three medals at the world championships also marked an improvement on her performance at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships, where she won one silver and two bronze medals.
The World Weightlifting Championships are being held in Ningbo, China, from Oct. 27 to Nov. 8. Taiwan sent eight men and eight women to compete. Medals are awarded separately for the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in each weight class, making the event one of the important competitions for athletes seeking points toward qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
It is worth noting that the women’s 57kg class is not among the six women’s weight classes included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic program. Nevertheless, Chen’s strong performance at a major international event gives Taiwan’s weightlifting team valuable experience and highlights the continued progress of its young athletes.
