【TAINAN, Oct. 25】 Vietnamese low-cost carrier VietJet Air launched a direct route between Tainan and Hanoi on Oct. 25, making it the third international route at Tainan Airport. The Tainan City Government said the new service is expected to provide travelers in southern Taiwan with a more convenient option for visiting Vietnam and help attract Vietnamese tourists to Tainan.

According to a Central News Agency report, Tainan Deputy Mayor Yeh Tse-shan welcomed the inaugural flight from Hanoi that day. He said all 230 seats on the first outbound flight from Tainan had been sold, indicating solid market demand for the new route.

VietJet will operate the route with Airbus A321 aircraft, offering four weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. According to the airline's published schedule, flights departing Hanoi are scheduled to leave at 7:50 a.m. and arrive in Tainan at 11:10 a.m. Return flights from Tainan to Hanoi are scheduled to depart at 12:10 p.m. and arrive at 2 p.m.

In addition to the new Hanoi service, Tainan Airport currently has routes to Okinawa and Kumamoto operated by Tigerair Taiwan. The new route also establishes a more direct air link between Tainan and Vietnam's capital.

The Tainan City Government said Hanoi and Tainan both boast historic and cultural sites as well as distinctive culinary traditions, adding that it expects the direct service to increase two-way tourism, business travel and cultural exchanges. For travelers in southern Taiwan, departing from Tainan could reduce the need to transfer at other airports or take lengthy ground transportation. Vietnamese visitors, meanwhile, will have more direct access to Tainan and nearby tourist destinations.

However, the route's long-term performance will depend on factors including load factors, fare competitiveness, flight reliability and whether travel operators can offer attractive itineraries. If demand remains steady, the air link between Tainan and Vietnam could further boost tourism and business exchanges.

Travelers should check the airline's official website for the latest flight schedules, baggage rules and ticketing information before departure.
