Taiwan stocks rebound as US tech shares lift index back above 47,000
TSMC gains 1.04%, contributing about 200 points to the benchmark, while investors remain focused on US technology stocks, AI capital spending and volatility risks facing high-valuation shares.

Stronger US technology stocks bolstered risk appetite, sending the Taiwan Weighted Index up 939.35 points on Oct. 28 to close at 47,035.58 and reclaim the 47,000-point mark. Semiconductor and AI-related electronic shares were key drivers of the market rebound.
According to Focus Taiwan, the benchmark rose 2.04% for the day, moving between 46,402.79 and 47,060.46 points. Turnover was about NT$722.14 billion, down from NT$1.03 trillion in the previous session.
Market analysts said gains in US technology stocks encouraged Taiwan investors to buy on dips. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 3.60% in the previous session, further supporting Taiwan technology shares. Anthropic, a US artificial intelligence safety and research company, also filed for its initial public offering, reinforcing market optimism about the AI industry's development.
Among large-cap stocks, TSMC gained 1.04% to close at NT$2,425 per share. The market estimated that the chipmaker contributed about 200 points to the benchmark's advance. Semiconductor and IC design stocks including Nanya Technology, Winbond Electronics and MediaTek also moved higher, while buying increased in some AI-related electronic component shares.
However, a one-day rebound does not mean market risks have disappeared. Investors still need to monitor the performance of US technology stocks, whether AI capital spending can continue to translate into corporate earnings, and volatility risks among high-valuation shares.
The Taiwan market's performance ahead will depend on developments in international technology stocks, corporate earnings and fund flows. For Taiwan's economy, which relies heavily on exports and the technology industry, global AI demand remains one of the key factors influencing market sentiment.
